'Tis the season of gathering herbal medicine 🌼

🌼 Mullein Flowers: Nature’s Gentle Healer 🌼

I've been blessed with having a Mullein plant for the second year and I'm so thankful. I've harvested some of the leaves for my #herbal apothecary and shared a few with others. #sharingiscaring Now it's time to gather the flowers to dry and store for the upcoming months. Many people only know about the healing power of the leaves so I wanted to talk about these golden rays of sunshine peeping behind me.

Delicate, fuzzy, and golden yellow — mullein flowers aren’t just pretty faces. These powerful blossoms have been used for centuries in herbal medicine to support the lungs, ears, and skin.

Time to share some benefits of this golden healer:

🌬️ Respiratory Relief – Mullein flowers are renowned for their ability to soothe inflammation in the lungs, loosen stuck mucus, and calm dry, irritated coughs. They act as a natural expectorant, making it easier to breathe and promoting lung healing—perfect for colds, bronchitis, asthma, and smoke exposure.

💧 Lymphatic Support

Mullein flowers help stimulate lymphatic flow, supporting the body’s natural detox process. By promoting gentle drainage of lymph fluid, mullein may reduce swelling, congestion, and support a stronger immune response—especially during times of illness or sluggish circulation.

🌿 Anti-inflammatory & Antimicrobial – Used externally, mullein flowers help treat minor wounds, rashes, and skin infections.

👂 Natural Earache Remedy

Infused mullein flower oil is a time-tested treatment for ear infections and pain—especially in children. Its antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties help reduce swelling and fight infection, while the warm oil eases discomfort. (Always make sure the eardrum isn’t ruptured before using.)

🌿 Soothing for the Skin

Applied topically, mullein flower oil can be used to calm insect bites, skin rashes, burns, and mild infections. The flowers help reduce inflammation and encourage gentle healing.

3. Strain through cheesecloth and store in a dropper bottle.

How to Use:

Warm slightly and add 1–2 drops into the affected ear *only if the eardrum is not ruptured*. Use 1–2 times daily as needed.

⚠️ Always check with a healthcare provider if you suspect a serious ear infection or damage to the ear.

Have you seen a Mullein plant with these beautiful flowers near you? They're pretty noticeable. Just look for the stalk, leaves and flowers in an open field, along the highway or by a railroad. Just don't harvest from the last two areas. They help to detox the air and you don't need that in your body.
