3 herbal remedies to support your skin

I just shared in HEAL.thing101 some powerful information about this toxic, well-loved skin ointment (you got to check it out) but since this commUnity is HERBS101, I'm sharing plant alternatives for skin health.


🌿Remedy 1️⃣

~Soothing Calendula & Chamomile Skin Salve~

Purpose:

Calms irritated, inflamed skin and promotes healing of rashes, eczema patches, and dry, cracked skin.


🌼 Ingredients:

1 cup dried calendula flowers

½ cup dried chamomile flowers

1 cup olive oil (or sweet almond oil)

1 oz beeswax (vegan options are available) for solid salve texture OR Shea Butter

Optional: 10 drops lavender essential oil (anti-inflammatory and calming)


🔥 Instructions to infuse the oil:

•Place herbs and oil in a double boiler or jar and gently heat (not boil) for 1–2 hours, or infuse in a sunny window for 2 weeks.

•Strain the oil using a fine mesh or cheesecloth.

•Melt beeswax (or Shea Butter) in a clean saucepan and stir in the infused oil.

• Turn off heat and to cool just a few seconds then add essential oil if using, stir well, and pour into clean tins or jars.

•Let it cool and solidify. Store in a cool, dry place for up to 6 months.


🌟 How to Use:

Apply to affected areas 2–3 times daily to reduce itchiness, redness, and dryness.


🌿 Remedy 2️⃣

~Anti-Itch Oat & Herb Skin Wash~

Purpose:

Relieves itching, soothes hot rashes, and reduces inflammation from eczema, allergic reactions, and hives.


🌼Ingredients:

½ cup organic rolled oats

2 tbsp dried plantain leaf (anti-inflammatory and cooling) *pictured is fresh plantain

2 tbsp dried nettle leaf (natural antihistamine)

1 tbsp dried lavender (calming and antibacterial)


Instructions:

•Place all herbs and oats in a blender or coffee grinder and grind to a fine powder.

•Store the powder in a jar with a tight lid.


🌟 How to Use:

•Mix 2–3 tablespoons into warm water to make a thick paste.

•Apply gently to irritated areas, leave on for 10–15 minutes, and rinse with cool water.

Alternatively, tie the powder into a muslin cloth or sock and soak it in a warm bath for full-body relief.


🌿Remedy 3️⃣

~Psoriasis Healing Herbal Oil~

Purpose:

Reduces inflammation, softens plaques, calms itch, and nourishes skin affected by psoriasis.


🔑 Key Herbs:

Oregon Grape Root – Powerful antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory, reduces excess skin cell growth.

Gotu Kola – Enhances skin regeneration and collagen production.

Turmeric Root – Reduces inflammation and redness.

Neem Leaf – Antibacterial, antifungal, and detoxifying.


🍶 Ingredients:

2 tbsp dried Oregon grape root

2 tbsp dried neem leaf

1 tbsp dried gotu kola

1 tbsp dried turmeric root (or 1 tsp powder)

1 cup cold-pressed sesame oil or jojoba oil or Shea Nut Oil

Optional: 8 drops tea tree or frankincense essential oil


🔥 Instructions:

•Combine herbs and oil in a heat-safe jar or double boiler.

•Gently heat on low for 1–2 hours (avoid boiling), stirring occasionally.

•Strain the herbs using cheesecloth or a fine sieve.

•Pour the infused oil into a clean glass bottle. •Add essential oil if desired.

•Store in a cool, dark place for up to 6 months.


How to Use:

Apply a small amount to affected areas morning and night.

Massage gently into plaques or dry patches until fully absorbed.

Best results come with consistent, daily use and pairing with a supportive anti-inflammatory diet.
